Inati Labs Community — Privacy Policy

This community (“the forum”, at community.inatilabs.com) is run by Inati Labs. We take a deliberately minimal, sovereignty-first approach to your information: we collect only what we need to run the community, we store it on New Zealand infrastructure, and we never sell, rent, or trade it.

This policy is governed by the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
Where your data is stored
Forum content and the community database are hosted on Catalyst Cloud, a New Zealand–owned and New Zealand–operated cloud provider, with data held in New Zealand data centres. This is a genuine sovereignty position: the infrastructure is not an overseas provider’s “New Zealand region” — it is owned and operated under New Zealand jurisdiction.
We do not transfer your personal information to any other party for storage or processing.
What we collect
When you register: your username, your name (if you choose to provide one), and your email address. Your email address is verified by a one-time link so we know you control it.
When you participate: the content you post (topics, replies, messages), and the IP address a post originates from.
Automatically: server logs, which may include the IP address of requests to the server, and cookies (see below).
You can read the forum without registering.
What we use it for
- To run your account and sign you in.
- To display and organise the content you and others post.
- To send the notifications you have asked for or that relate to your account.
- To keep the community secure and to respond to support requests.
We do not use your information for advertising or marketing profiling, and we do not sell, rent, or trade it to anyone.
Who we share it with
Only the service providers we need in order to run the community:
- Catalyst Cloud — hosting and storage (New Zealand).
This provider handles your data only to deliver their service to us, under their own obligations of confidentiality. We do not authorise them to use it for their own purposes.
We may disclose information where we are legally required to under New Zealand law. If a post contains embedded third-party content (images, videos, or links), your browser loads that content directly from those third parties, who operate under their own privacy policies.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and understand aggregate, non-identifying usage so we can improve the community. You can control cookies through your browser, though some features may not work without them.
How long we keep it
- Account information: for as long as your account is active.
- Server logs: retained no longer than [NUMBER] days.
- Your posts: remain part of the community discussion unless removed. You can request removal (see “Your rights”).
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of it.
- Request deletion of your account and associated personal information.

This community is intended for people aged [13 / 16] and over.
Our commitment to data sovereignty
Inati Labs exists to advance Pacific data sovereignty, so we hold ourselves to the principles we advocate. We collect the minimum necessary, we store it under New Zealand jurisdiction wherever we can, and we are transparent about the one dependency — email delivery — that currently does not sit entirely within New Zealand. We align our handling of community data with the CARE Principles for Indigenous Data Governance (Collective benefit, Authority to control, Responsibility, Ethics) alongside the Privacy Act 2020.
